HB 335 Eulogy

                     Friday, April 18, 1997

This is a Sad Day for the Children of Florida

HB 335* met a hasty and almost unnoticed demise
in a Florida House Committee early this morning.

We would like to think that Florida grieves for the loss of this
Child Protection Legislation, but are not wholly convinced that most
Floridians will notice, as they were seemingly uninvolved in 335's
brief, but very courageous existence.

Tonight, a few of us rest and reflect, while the FL Senate version
of 335 lingers hauntingly (and hopefully briefly) as a reminder that
even the most well-intentioned efforts can spin off just a ghastly
and unwelcome parody as SB 2186.

Thanks to all of you who responded to our continuous pleas for help,
-- for writing legislators, signing petitions, posting articles, --
and for showing that you care.

With my sincere admiration to Jody Gorran (Florida), who gave
unceasingly of his time and money, and to Debbie Mahoney (California),
who spent long days and late nights on the web, email, phone, and
fax with me. And a special thanks to Brooke and the high school
students in New York, who sent messages and a signed petition to
Florida legislators!

To all of you ... please forgive our incessant and insistent email.
We fought the good fight, -- and we will be back ...

"We will not go quietly into the night."

Nancy (Indiana)

P.S. Nevada has a "Tennessee" version of HB335 pending, which
is reviewed in the media as meeting active opposition by the
Mormon community.
