How sad that the greed of a few has given a tragic situation
the ingredients for yet another media circus and brought further
heartache to two grieving families.
Judging from some of the e-mail I've received, it would seem that this page
is accomplishing its goal. One writer wondered why anyone would pity those who
"started all the misery". That's a very good question, although I suspect the
author of that letter held a somewhat limited view of who did start the misery.
For some time, I have felt the need to make some comment on the insanity
surrounding the already insane situation of Columbine and the growing
incidence of school shootings in general. But where to start? How do
you fight mass insanity? "It was the video games, the availability of
guns, the music." (The last being reminiscent of Satanic messages in
Beatles albums when played backwards!)
Wake UP! The shootings in Littleton happened for the same reason that so many
people are searching for a means of escape from reality, ANY escape.
If you support taking a child out of their home, for a *minimum* of 10
years, to become "educated", if you support confining a child in a
building, surrounded by people with whom he has nothing in common,
forced to endure whatever the "experts" think is "best" for him, then
that reason is YOU.
Add an intelligent kid to the equation, and you have (gasp!) an *individual*!
And that is something that the public schools just can't tolerate. Make no
mistake, the hell that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold experienced didn't take
place without the very willing cooperation of at least some of the school's
administrators and teachers. And why not? After all, they didn't conform, so
obviously *something* had to be done to either turn them into good little
mindless automatons or, failing in that, destroy them. The only thing that
made Columbine "newsworthy" is that it destroyed not only them but whoever
else happened to be around. And that is tragedy on top of tragedy.
If you can't face these facts, then I suggest you go back to whatever
fantasy-land you came from.
To those of you who know what I'm talking about, I can only say "God
bless you", and welcome. :) This is a very new project, but it cries out
to go online *now*. I don't think I could in all conscience continue to
call this an abuse prevention and healing site, yet ignore this issue on
a personal level.
Most of this has been posted for some time on the main school abuse page,
but I think it's time to split this off and expand both pages in their own
respective directions. So here it is, in its ugly reality, a phenomenon which
is indeed, "Society's Child".
